For those of you who did not understand, this is an old Kannada film song which literally translates as follows:
“Philosopher says Gold is soil and poet says soil is gold”

Here you can see two completely different perspectives of looking at a thing. The philosopher feels that all the wealth is equal to dirt whereas a poet finds so much worth even in dirt. Can you see the contrast here??? 😉

Its not very unusual that philosophy is often depicted as being pessimistic and the creativity is about being optimistic. But the reason I am writing this is to clarify a myth that philosophy is all about pessimism. Philosophy is not about being pessimistic but about being practical.

I myself like philosophy and even give some philosophical ‘gyan’ to some of my very close friends(I can remember a total of 3 unfortunate people who have gone through the torture 😀 ) But I am not a pessimist and people who know me will definitely second it.  In fact, I have been rejected once in a very important matter of life and one of the ‘valid’ reasons for the rejection was given as “He is too optimistic” 😉

Yes folks, sometimes life gets a little nasty but that is no reason to loose hope  in life.  As I always say, what’s life without hope? The very reason behind everything one does is hope – Hope that the future will get better by whatever one does. A student studies day and night hoping to get a good job, a SW engineer works on weekends against his wish hoping to get a good appraisal[ 😉 ], even the one who contemplates suicide does it in the hope that it will solve his/her problems.

Well, I suppose i drifted a little bit off the topic. But all I wanted to say is to be practical but not loose hope. Perseverance always wins at the end. If you are not winning at the moment, it just means that it is not the end yet.

Saying all that I wanted to say, let me end this with an anonymous, yet famous quote:  Impossible itself says I’m possible

Wait, don’t jump into a conclusion yet by just looking at the title!!! I am not talking about my life here… After all, no human being can ever confidently say that he/she has done just 3 mistakes in their life… 😉 Ask anyone if they have any regrets in their lives and you will know how many mistakes he/she has done in life and regret for them (Ofcourse, this will work only if you are close enough to the person whom you are asking and that person is open enough to confess to you 😀 )

The 3 mistakes of my life - By Chetan BhagatComing back to the the title of this blog, I was just referring to the latest book by Chetan Bhagat of “Five Point someone” fame. His third book “The 3 mistakes of my life – A story about Business, Cricket and Religion” has been released now and I got to lay my hands on it today 🙂 And trust me, he has managed to come up with a master piece for the second time. (I did not really like his second book “One night @ the call center“)

The new book impressed me as soon as I opened it and saw whom it is dedicated to. I quote the author here: “To my country, which called me back”. Pretty cool, isn’t it? 🙂 The story revolves around the lives of three close friends (sounds familiar? 😉 ) Govind, Ishaan and Omi – and their life in Ahmedabad.

Govind is a poor guy who makes a living by giving maths tutions for schoolers and has dreams to become a big businessman someday. Ish is a cricket crazy guy who has run away from NDA and eversince, has been a matter of laugh for everyone, especially his dad. And Omi, the son of a priest, is an idiot who just loves to be part of something and anything, could it be business, religion or politics.

Govind is the Mr.Smarty Pant among the three and comes up with an idea to start a business and in order to get Ish also involved, he decides to start a sports shop. And our idiot priest boy is ready to be part of any venture and he joins in too. So, the three start “The Team India Cricket Shop” in a small shop in a temple premises owned by Omi’s family. In order to rake in more money and expand the business, Govind and Ish start mathematics and Cricket coaching respectively. But before they expand the business by moving to a new shop in a posh mall, an earthquake strikes and they loose all their savings. In the mean while, Govind starts giving private tuitions to Ish’s sister to help her clear the medical entrance test. But he ends up in love with her and breaks the most important protocol – Don’t hit upon your best friend’s sister. At the same time, Ish comes across a super talented, young, Muslim boy Ali who can hit a sixer of every ball bowled at him but is least interested in cricket. This reminds Ish of his own failure and he becomes determined to nurture this young talent and see him in the Indian team someday. On the other side, our priest boy gets involved in his Mama’s party work. And one day, after the Godhra incident, the lives of all these three becomes messy and comes to a point where Omi is killed by his own mama when he tries to save Ali.

Well, that’s the story in brief and I strongly recommend you read the book yourself if you want to know in detail. The 250+ page book retails for Rs.95 and you can get it for even lesser price on sify.com. No matter whether you buy for 95 bucks or for less , it is definitely worth five hours of pure entertainment for it is a story very well told. If you are still not sure, you can read an excerpt here and decide for yourself.

Finally, a quote from the book which I liked a lot. “Life is an optimisation problem, with tons of variables and constraints. We can only optimise, never solve it

My first blog…

May 14, 2008

Is it so??? Well, not really… WordPress made it very easy by automatically creating my first blog here.

Well, you may then be asking what the hell am I doing here… To be honest, I myself donno 🙂

Anyway, have to post something or the other right? 😉 Ok, let me share one of my random thoughts…

Have you folks ever wondered what is the difference between a break-down and a break-up?

There is as much difference between the two as there is similarity. In break-down, something goes bad and you get stuck with it or because of it Eg: when cars break down, you get stuck (somewhat stupid example, huh? 😉 )

And break-up also is not much different and definitely not any better. In fact, it is worse than the first and hurts a lot more. Similar to break-down, here also something very bad happens but still you don’t stop and move on in life and that is the best part. 🙂

Ok, now don’t ask me why am I talking about break-up, break-down etc… Neither my vehicle broke down and nor did I broke up with someone… Its just one of the random thoughts of my weird mind… 🙂

Well, that’s it for now. Hope my brain comes up with something else very soon. Until then, be good and do good. And “Never break-down when you break-up” 🙂

Signing off for now…
